Self-assignments are a big part of working as a freelance photographer. Some last years and others, like this one, can last an hour start to finish. A couple of months ago, my oldest child’s class had to present a biography report while dressed up in character. As I was dropping him off at school, I thought it would be fun to photograph all of the kids in their costume. So I contacted the school and got permission to come in and make portraits of the children in his class. Afterwards, I had each child sign their name as if they were that character to go along with their picture.
